Clear labelling
Every advertisement is marked Advertisement.
Paid articles produced for or with an advertiser are marked Sponsored and name the sponsor. They are never presented as independent news.
We limit the number and placement of ads so that they do not get in the way of reading.
Editorial independence
Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over our news coverage. They cannot review or approve stories before publication, and buying advertising does not buy coverage or protect anyone from critical reporting.
Ads we do not accept
Ads that are false or misleading, or make unverified health, financial or legal claims
Ads for illegal products or services, or for products that may not legally be advertised in India
Ads that are hateful, discriminatory or sexually explicit, or that exploit children
Ads designed to look like news stories without a Sponsored label
Ads that contain malware, hidden tracking or deceptive redirects
Political advertising
We accept political advertisements only when they comply with the law and with Election Commission of India requirements, including pre-certification where it applies. They carry the name of the advertiser.
Local targeting
Advertisers can choose the areas, sections, languages and devices where their ads appear. We do not target ads using sensitive personal data.
