Considering the city's growing water requirements, the municipal corporation has undertaken a project to draw water directly from the Andra dam. With the estimate committee approving the necessary expenditure of Rs 220 crore for the jackwell and closed pipeline works, the tender process for these works will now begin.
Currently, as the jackwell for the Andra project is incomplete, approximately 95 MLD of raw water is temporarily lifted every day from the weir on the Indrayani river at Nighoje. This water is treated at the Chikhli water treatment plant and supplied to the city.
The required land for drawing water directly from the Andra dam has been received from the Water Resources Department, and actual work will commence once the tender process is completed.
For the city's long-term water supply, the municipal corporation also plans to bring additional water from the Bhama-Askhed dam.
