A "Nirdhar Morcha" will be held in Mumbai on September 29 to demand equal opportunities in education, employment, and government jobs for deprived sections, including the Matang community, through sub-categorisation within the Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation. The march will take place at Azad Maidan under the leadership of MLA Amit Gorkhe.
Organisers stated that over 75 marches and protests have been held across the state so far for this demand. "The main objective of reservation is the all-round development of everyone. However, some sections within the Scheduled Castes have not yet received the expected benefits, which is why sub-categorisation is necessary," MLA Gorkhe said.
The main demands of the march include implementing sub-categorisation to give deprived communities their rightful share, providing equal opportunities to students in education, ensuring fair representation in employment and government jobs, and taking policy decisions to ensure the benefits of reservation reach all deprived sections.
Organisers claimed that various communities including Matang, Madiga, Burud, and Charmakar, along with social organisations, women, and youth from across the state will participate in the march in large numbers.
