A 46-year-old resident of Nigdi has been defrauded of ₹2.49 lakh in an online investment scam. News PCMC reported that the victim was enticed to invest in the stock market through an app named 'GrowPWM', accessed via a WhatsApp link, with promises of substantial financial returns.

The victim began investing in the scheme on September 20, 2026. They were assured of significant financial gains and subsequently deposited money into various bank accounts. However, by October 8, 2026, they had not received either their invested amount or any returns, leading them to realize they had been scammed.

The victim has filed a complaint at the Nigdi Police Station. On October 15, 2026, the police registered a case against an unknown woman, the 'GrowPWM' app user, and the holders of various bank accounts under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Police Inspector Jadhav is conducting further investigation into the matter.

Police have urged citizens not to fall prey to such online investment lures. They emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of any unknown link or investment opportunity before clicking on it or investing money.
