In light of potential water scarcity due to inadequate rainfall in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has urged citizens to use water judiciously. The civic body has also warned of strict action against those misusing water. Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi announced that the Municipal Corporation has implemented a 10% water cut effective from August 31, 2027.
To curb water misuse, the Municipal Corporation has formed special inspection teams. These teams will monitor compliance with water usage regulations. Housing societies are now mandated to use treated water (STP/GTP) for their gardens. The Municipal Corporation stated that water connections of housing projects that fail to use treated water will be permanently disconnected.
Using potable water for washing vehicles, cleaning terraces, and washing courtyards is strictly prohibited. New housing projects will be provided with water connections of limited diameter. Electric pumps used to extract water from the Municipal Corporation's water connections will be confiscated. Furthermore, new water connections will not be provided to washing centers and large commercial projects. Commercial establishments and construction projects will be required to arrange their own water supply.
Penalties will be imposed for the misuse of potable water for unnecessary purposes, excluding domestic use, schools, and hospitals. Citizens are urged to ensure that water tanks do not overflow and there are no water leakages. The public is requested to report any leakages in water pipelines to the water supply department. The Municipal Corporation has also advised judicious use of borewell water due to declining groundwater levels. For construction activities, it is mandatory to use treated water from the PCMC's STPs. Criminal cases will be filed against those illegally extracting water from rivers and selling it via tankers. Housing societies that conserve water will be honored by the Municipal Corporation.
