The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has requested 25 acres of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) land in Sector 23, Ravet, for the construction of a new waste-to-energy plant. This request comes as the existing 14-megawatt waste-to-energy plant in Moshi has been non-operational since June 5, 2026, according to PuneKar News.

The closure of the Moshi plant follows a series of serious incidents. On July 8, 2026, the plant's chimney collapsed, followed by the collapse of an unauthorised administrative building. This tragic incident led to the deaths of 9 employees and injuries to 12 others. Operations at the Moshi plant have been halted since these events.

The new proposed plant will be built on Survey Numbers 155, 156, 158, and 177 in Ravet. It will have the capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of dry waste daily. This is expected to reduce waste transportation costs and alleviate the burden on the Moshi waste depot.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had previously instructed the civic administration to establish another waste-to-energy plant with a capacity of 27 megawatts. In line with these directives, the PCMC Commissioner submitted an official request for the land to the State Urban Development Department on September 8, 2026. Discussions regarding this matter also took place in July 2023. This new project is viewed as a sustainable solution to the city's growing waste management challenges.
