Pimpri-Chinchwad MLA Mahesh Landge has assured positive action on the pending demands of persons with disabilities. The Prahar Apang Kranti Sanghatana submitted a memorandum to him, which included demands related to financial assistance, property tax concessions, self-employment, and public facilities.
Among these demands is a request for a one-time grant of 2 lakh rupees for house repairs for persons with disabilities. Additionally, they sought a 50% concession on property tax, with the benefit extended to those without an 'Index-2' document based on alternative papers, and to eligible persons with disabilities registered as 'occupants'.
The organisation stated that eligible persons with disabilities who received a 10,000 rupee grant for equipment in 2017 should now receive 1 lakh rupees in financial assistance, in accordance with current regulations, as their old equipment may no longer be usable. A demand was also made for the 2 lakh rupee financial assistance scheme for marriages between persons with disabilities to be implemented retrospectively from April 1, 2013. The memorandum also noted that there should be parity in financial assistance schemes for marriages between persons with disabilities and marriages between a person with disability and a non-disabled person.
Another demand was that disabled stallholders who received licenses before 2012 should be allowed to continue their businesses at their current locations. The organisation also requested that PCMC parks, gardens, and recreation centres be made accessible for persons with disabilities with ramps, accessible pathways, and appropriate restrooms. Furthermore, they requested that all PCMC buildings undergo an 'accessibility audit' and that ramps, lifts, and other necessary facilities be installed.
MLA Mahesh Landge assured that he would consider these demands positively and discuss them with the Municipal Corporation administration, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of the schemes according to the rules. These demands were presented when citizens directly raised their issues with the MLA during the Navratrotsav organised by the Maheshdada Landge Sports Foundation and Shivanjali Sakhi Manch.
