With the number of 20 to 30-storey buildings rapidly increasing in the city, the fire at Ganesham Phase 2 has raised the question of whether the fire brigade has adequate equipment to reach such heights. Against this backdrop, Kate submitted a written memorandum to the commissioner.
His primary demand is that state-of-the-art hydraulic ladders and platforms capable of reaching heights of 50 to 90 meters or more be immediately added to the firefighting fleet. He also stated that a safety audit of the brigade's vehicles, pumps, oxygen masks, and rescue equipment should be conducted, and faulty equipment should be replaced.
The memorandum also demands that a report detailing how many societies in the city have undergone fire audits, how many locations had deficiencies, and how many societies were issued notices be published within 7 days.
Kate stated that the incident at Ganesham Phase 2 is a wake-up call for the administration and that concrete steps must be taken immediately to ensure the safety of citizens.
