According to the police, while the auto-rickshaw was travelling on the New BRT Road, a speeding Bullet rammed into it from behind. The impact was so severe that the rickshaw overturned on the road.
The rickshaw driver, Anil Tambe, sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was admitted to a hospital, but died during treatment. The auto-rickshaw was also extensively damaged.
Police allege that the 20-year-old Bullet rider, a resident of Baner, was riding the vehicle at high speed and in a negligent manner. A case was registered based on a complaint lodged by a 40-year-old woman, following which he was arrested.
Police are further investigating the accident.
