This special drive was undertaken to check whether luxury buses registered in other states comply with rules while transporting passengers within Maharashtra or from Maharashtra to other states. Motor vehicle inspectors and assistant inspectors from the RTO conducted the inspections.
During the checks, various violations were found, such as the absence of fire extinguishers, carrying passengers beyond capacity, expired fitness certificates, lack of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), missing permits or driving licenses, absence of first aid kits, transporting goods in passenger buses, and illegal vehicle modifications.
Action was taken against 66 buses under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant rules. Out of the total fine of Rs 13.74 lakh, approximately Rs 10.57 lakh has been recovered.
The RTO has appealed to luxury bus drivers and owners to keep their documents updated, carry valid permits and fitness certificates, and adhere to all passenger safety regulations. The office clarified that action will continue to be taken if violations are found in the future.
