The Congress party has announced its candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. Incumbent MLA Jayant Dinkar Asgaonkar has been renominated for the Pune Teachers' Constituency, as reported by Punekar News. Abhijeet Wanjari has been given another opportunity for the Nagpur Graduates' Constituency, while Prof. Aditi Rishikesh Pohare has been fielded as a new candidate for the Amravati Teachers' Constituency.
Voting will take place for a total of five Legislative Council seats in this election. These include the Pune Graduates', Nagpur Graduates', Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates', Pune Teachers', and Amravati Teachers' constituencies. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), plans to contest these elections together.
According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers is October 6, while the last date for withdrawing nominations has been set for October 9. The terms of current MLAs Satish Chavan, Arun Lad, and Kiran Sarnaik are set to expire on December 6. This election has generated significant interest in political circles.
