A departmental inquiry is set to begin against three Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials who were suspended in connection with the Moshi landfill tragedy, News PCMC has reported. A proposal for this inquiry has been submitted to the Municipal Commissioner.
The incident, which resulted in the deaths of nine workers, occurred on July 8 when an administrative building at the waste-to-energy project collapsed. Following the tragedy, the concerned officials were accused of gross negligence in duty, carelessness in work, misuse of authority to protect unauthorized constructions, and failure to comply with environmental regulations. The explanations provided by these officials were not found satisfactory by the administration.
To investigate the incident, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Ugale-Teli. The administration has taken this step after receiving the committee's report. This departmental inquiry is expected to last for at least six months. If the officials are found guilty during this inquiry, stringent measures such as dismissal from service or other disciplinary actions may be taken against them.
