Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi warned cable operators during a meeting to immediately remove unauthorized overhead cables in the city, failing which strict action will be taken.

Unauthorized and dangling cables are posing a threat to citizens' safety and marring the city's beauty, the commissioner said during a meeting held at the Late Mayor Madhukarrao Pavale Hall in the main administrative building in Pimpri.

He explained that the civic body has set a target to lay all cables in the city underground over the next year, adding that a pipe network of approximately 610 kilometres is available for this purpose.

The municipal corporation is drafting a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the cable network. This will include regulations for the permission process, the use of underground cables, and the removal of unauthorized and unused cables.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Ruling Party Leader Prashant Shitole, Leader of Opposition Bhausaheb Bhoir, chairpersons of various committees, Additional Commissioners Kuldeep Jangam and Trupti Sandbhor, engineers, and representatives of cable operator companies.
