The South Mahalunge MIDC police have apprehended a gang within 24 hours for robbing a rickshaw passenger at knifepoint in the Nigdi area, stealing Rs 11,470 in cash.

According to the police, Ajay Chintaman Deslepatil (21) was traveling along the Nigdi-Talwade bridge road at approximately 10:00 PM on September 28.

At that time, a rickshaw driver and his two accomplices colluded to threaten the victim with a koyta. A complaint was filed stating that they intimidated the victim and forcibly stole Rs 11,470 from his shirt and trouser pockets.

Recognizing the gravity of the incident, investigation teams were formed under the guidance of senior officers. Despite the initial lack of concrete information, police conducted a technical analysis of CCTV footage from the area.

After identifying the suspect rickshaw's registration number through CCTV analysis, the police launched a search for the accused. During the investigation, Aman alias Shahbaz Sameer Shaikh (26) and Shekhar Bapu Mane (31) were apprehended.

Following an inquiry that confirmed their involvement, both were arrested. Additionally, a juvenile in conflict with the law was detained and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

According to police, Aman alias Shahbaz Sameer Shaikh had recently been released on bail in connection with a MCOCA case at the Nigdi police station. Police stated that he has various prior criminal cases registered against him. It is reported that Shekhar Mane also has prior cases of robbery and assault registered against him.

Police Sub-Inspector Sharad Pinjari is conducting further investigation into the matter.
