To conduct health check-ups and create awareness about safe working practices among sanitation workers who keep the city clean, the health department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) organized a 'Safai Mitra Suraksha Shibir' in Thergaon. Over 1,500 sanitation workers from five ward offices—'A', 'B', 'D', 'G', and 'J'—participated in this camp held at the Late Shankarrao Gawade Kamgar Bhavan under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' initiative.
The camp was inaugurated by 'G' Ward Officer Mukesh Kolap. Free check-ups for hemoglobin, blood pressure, and diabetes were conducted for the sanitation workers. To ensure health is not neglected in their daily rush, the importance of a balanced diet, exercise, yoga, pranayama, stress management, and regular check-ups was explained. Information was also provided on safety measures to be taken according to the nature of their work and healthy habits.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pradip Thengal stated that since sanitation work is physically demanding, regular health check-ups are necessary. Health Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gophane said that check-ups help in detecting diseases at an early stage.
The Social Development Department also set up an information center at the camp through 'Lighthouse Skills'. Information was provided on various free training courses such as accounts assistant, electric vehicle technician, banking services, nursing, digital marketing, hotel management, two-wheeler and mobile repair, as well as subsequent employment opportunities for youth aged 18 to 35 from the families of sanitation workers.
