According to the police, three to four women and three men arrived at Star Bazaar in Wakad in an Innova car on the evening of August 29. They made off with goods worth around Rs 42,100, including ghee, almonds, cashews, and other food items. A case was registered at the Wakad police station in this regard.
The investigation team conducted a technical analysis of the CCTV footage from the shop and the surrounding area. It revealed that the car used for the theft had headed towards Mumbai. Tracking the vehicle, the police detained seven individuals.
During interrogation, police said the suspects confessed to stealing cashews, almonds, and ghee from Star Bazaar outlets in Pimpri and Chikhli, in addition to Wakad, as well as from shops in Kesnand Phata and Wagholi in Pune. Cases have also been registered against them at the Pimpri and Chikhli police stations.
Police suspect that the gang may have committed similar crimes in Mumbai and other parts of the state. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, and the Wakad police are conducting further investigations.
